"We were happy in the simplicity of life. We showered in a tub of water, scrubbed the laundry with our hands, and cooked on a grate on the floor. We ate what we picked in the field or bought from the islanders - vegetables, fruit, eggs and spices sold on a blanket outside the mud houses."
"Outside the orphanage was a sign with a Walt Disney quote: 'If you can dream it, you can do it.' This sign reminds the children to dream far and aim high, that the fact that they were born with the AIDS virus will not prevent them from living a good, full life and happy. So I'm going to complain and whine that it's hard for me?"
